Committing to Therapy

For folks who decide to engage in face-to-face counseling services (or online counseling services ), we encourage you to commit to at least 4-sessions of therapy before making any decisions about quitting treatment. This is because it takes a substantial amount of time for change to happen and for your therapist to get to know you and develop a plan to help you work towards your own sense of freedom. We highly recommend 8-12 sessions for full benefit of the therapy process. Many of the evidence-based therapy treatments we use request that folks remain in treatment for 12 sessions to achieve maximum results. One of the most important factors that contribute to effective change is the relationship you have with your therapist . We do our best to connect with our clients and make you feel comfortable during this process. If for any reason, you do not feel your therapist is the best fit for you let us know and we will gladly connect you with one of our other amazing counselors. A common question when inquiring about counseling is how much does therapy cost?

Insurance

We have therapists who are in network with Aetna, Cigna, Lyra, KP, Tricare and Triwest/VA CCN (note that not all of our therapists are in network with each of these insurances, please be sure to verify when scheduling). If you have insurance outside of these options, we can provide you a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement if you would like. Some insurance companies will reimburse all or part of the costs associated with therapy depending on your plan. It is ultimately the client’s responsibility to confirm any insurance benefits with their insurance company prior to treatment. We are happy to assist in this process but cannot make any guarantees of quoted benefits.

Please check your coverage carefully by asking your insurance company the following questions:
Do I have mental health insurance benefits? Is a referral required?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
Do I have a co-pay or cost share?

Out of Network Benefits:
If we are not in network with your specific insurance. You can verify if you have any out of network benefits where your insurance would reimburse you for part of your session fees. We have partnered with Mentaya to help clients identify these potential cost savings. Use this tool below to see if you qualify for reimbursement for out of network services from your insurance company.

Cancellation Policy

We reserve appointment time specifically for our clients and request that they honor that time. Clients must provide at least 48-hours notice if they should need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, otherwise there is an $100 late cancel fee. Monday appointments need to be cancelled by 5pm Friday. This fee is the client’s responsibility to pay as insurance does not cover late cancellation fees. We also ask client’s to commit to therapy, frequent cancellations could result in ending the therapeutic relationship.

No Surprises Act

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.  This is just an estimate and as your therapist gathers more information about your symptoms and severity, your Good Faith Estimate may be revised to reflect this new information. Any time your Good Faith Estimate is revised it will be updated and stored in your client portal. You have the right to request an updated Good Faith Estimate at any time in your treatment.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. Your Good Faith Estimates will always be kept up to date and accessible for you to download in your client portal. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Crisis Resources

At Freedom Within Center we offer therapeutic counseling services to our clients, typically on a weekly basis. It is important to know that we are not a crisis center nor are we an intensive outpatient program. If you or someone you know is having a crisis it is advised to call 9-1-1 if it is a life-threatening emergency. If it is a mental health emergency and you are local to San Diego, you can contact the San Diego Access and Crisis Line at 1-888-724-7240. Additionally, the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline can be reached by phone or text to 9-8-8.
