Meet the Therapist!
Hello, My name is Kristin Calabria. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor. I have a strong interest in helping young adults and adults who have lived through or are experiencing trauma.
I have extensive experience with PTSD, depression, anxiety, relational issues, transition out of military service, LGBTQ+ issues, gender identity, kink, ENM, and non-traditional relational structures. I have lived experience with active duty military, transition out of the military, first generation/immigrant experience, acculturation, “third culture” identity, and navigating systemic oppression.
How Can I Help You?
Every person has a unique journey that they will take towards healing. My job is to facilitate, guide, support, and collaborate on that journey. I am a strong advocate for utilizing both top-down and bottom-up approaches. That means working from the perspective of both mind and body. As an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (ERYT) I incorporate yoga, mindfulness, and somatic work into my practice. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Expressive Arts therapy. As a “third culture” kid I understand the importance of providing culturally competent therapy to every client.
My Philosophy on Mental Health:
Mental Health is a crucial part of a complex system that is us. My belief is that mental health includes what’s going on in your mind and your heart, as well as your relationships. The self awareness that we gain throughout the therapeutic process helps us to better navigate the relationship that we have to our work, our family, our friends, our communities, and our purpose. It’s through this work that we are able to encounter whatever life throws at us with ease, grace, and maybe even a little bit of style.
More About Me…
I am a recent San Diego transplant. I grew up on the East Coast and spent most of my life there before moving out to Los Angeles and eventually San Diego. So yes, I still have a lot of that east coast spunk. Outside of therapy, I run a non-profit whose goal is to end systemic oppression in education.
Fun Fact!
I love distance running and ran across the Grand Canyon in May.
