Your first neurofeedback therapy session at Freedom Within Center is designed to be a comfortable and structured introduction to brainwave training. The experience typically lasts between 45 to 60 minutes and is divided into four main phases:
- Intake (10-15 minutes): You will begin with a consultation to review your personal goals, such as managing stress or PTSD, and discuss your history and assessments.
- Setup (5-10 minutes): A clinician will place EEG sensors on your scalp. These sensors are non-invasive and are used solely to detect electrical signals from your brain to provide a baseline reading.
- Training (20-30 minutes): You will engage with visual or auditory cues, such as calming sounds or a simple game on a screen. For example, an object might move when your brain reaches desired patterns. This process uses neuroplasticity to help your brain learn self-regulation.
- Wrap-Up (5-10 minutes): The session concludes with a debrief of your feelings and the assignment of simple homework, such as mindfulness exercises, to reinforce the training.
You are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and arrive relaxed. Questions regarding the equipment or the process are welcomed to ensure you feel supported throughout the journey.
