Meet the Therapist!
Hello! My name is Stephanie Wallace, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. I have a strong interest in helping people navigate relationship issues, life transitions, and impacts of trauma.
I have extensive experience working with survivors of childhood abuse and neglect, domestic violence, PTSD, grief, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, military, and LGBTQ+. I have lived experience with recovering from childhood abuse, complex trauma, grief, addiction, economic hardship, and relationship issues.
How Can I Help You?
I am a trauma-informed therapist that provides strength and resilience-based therapy to individuals and couples. I see healthy relationships as essential to health and quality of life. I offer empathy, safety, compassion, respect, and perspective while helping you to explore and improve your relationship to yourself, others, and the world-at-large. I have training in Emotion Focused Therapy, Gottman Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed LGBTQ+ Care, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, and 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training.
My Philosophy on Mental Health:
I believe safe relationships are the foundation for mental health. It is the relationships we develop with our caregivers in our earliest years that impact the development of our actual brain! In addition, the way we relate to ourselves was learned by how others related to us. Luckily, thanks to neuroplasticity (our brain’s ability to continue developing and changing), our mental health does not depend on any one relationship or experience. Through therapy, we learn about our automatic responses to life (based on what we learned in relationships). After we see our automatic responses, there is freedom to choose how we respond. And freedom within is the ultimate goal here!
More About Me…
I am a life-long learner and explorer. In my downtime I love to read, travel, spend time in nature, listen to music and podcasts, partake in meaningful conversations, watch interesting shows, cook, try new foods and restaurants, and engage with community.
I enjoy astrology and teaching people about their birth charts. I may have also been a mermaid in my past life because the ocean feels like my real home!
Stephanie provides both in person and virtual sessions. She is approved to accept Cigna and TriWest/VA insurances under her licensed supervisor.
