Meet the Therapist!
Hello! I am Kendra Penski. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or you can just refer to me as a therapist. I have been providing therapy to adults for the past 14 years.
I have extensive experience working with military, Veterans and their partners. I have specialized experience working with PTSD, MST, trauma, anxiety, depression and relationship issues. I spent time working both at the military base and with the VA. Additionally, my partner served active duty in the Marine Corps for 8 years and continues to serve in the reserves.
How Can I Help You?
My guess is that you are here because something is not quite right in your life. Maybe a relationship is not working the way you had hoped, or perhaps you feel continued disappointment with how things play out in your life. We all go through these ebbs and flows of life, but sometimes we can get stuck and have difficulty finding our way. This is when therapy can be an effective way to get you the right tools and help you move forward so that you can create the life you want and deserve.
My goal in therapy is to really get to understand you and the struggles that you are facing so that I can work with you to tackle those hurdles and help you work towards your own sense of freedom. I am certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy as well as Cognitive Processing Therapy. I have training in Emotion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and I also integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into sessions. These techniques can be very effective in treating specific issues, however therapy is not a one size fits all and it’s important for me to really get to know you in order to best serve you on your journey. I hold firm that you are the expert on your own life and my job is to use that to help you uncover the tools and skills that will help you be successful in your journey.
My Philosophy on Mental Health:
I truly believe that therapy is a beautiful process of peeling back layers of oneself to help discover the true being. It’s important to meet with a therapist you trust and who works to really understand you and the unique qualities you bring to the world. I am also a strong believer that humor, authenticity and genuine care for others is an integral part of the healing process in my therapy room. This is a welcoming and inclusive space where people from all walks of life can come to feel supported.
More About Me…
I am kept busy by two young kiddos and my Boxer pup, Maximus. I love to be outside during my spare time, play volleyball, tennis, or just walk on the beach. My family also enjoys taking our motorhome out to explore new places and visiting family on both coasts. I love Friday night pizza nights and my daily dose of Wheel of Fortune!
Fun Fact: I have an identical twin sister.
